Death of Costa Titch: South African rapper dies aged 28 after ‘collapsed on stage at a festival’ | Ents & Arts News

A 28-year-old rapper has died after collapsing while performing on stage in South Africa.

Tributes were paid to Costa Titch, real name Constantinos Tsobanoglou.

Footage on social media showed him appearing to stumble and fall to the ground during his set before being helped to his feet.

The South African star continued to perform and finished his track seconds later before crashing a second time.

The incident reportedly happened in front of fans at the Ultra Music Festival at the Nasrec Expo Center in Johannesburg on Saturday. He later died in hospital.

In an Instagram post, his family confirmed his death and thanked fans for their support.

“Death has tragically knocked on our door. Depriving us of our beloved son, brother and grandson, Constantinos Tsobanoglou (28), whom South Africa had come to love and idolize under his name of “Costa Titch” scene, they said.

“It is with deep sorrow that we must acknowledge his passing at this time.”

The family added: “We are grateful to the rescuers and all who are present in his final hours on this earth.

“As a family, we are facing a difficult time as we try to make sense of what has happened to us and ask that we have the time and space to come together.

“The Tsobanoglou family thanks you for the love and support you have given our son and may you continue to raise him even in spirit.”

British electronic music group Clean Bandit left a broken heart emoji on the post, while Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse wrote “Rest In Peace” with a tearful emoji.

The Southern African Music Rights Organization wrote on Twitter: “SAMRO is saddened by the passing of popular rapper Costa Tsobanoglou, better known as Costa Titch.

“Sincere condolences to his family, friends and the music industry at large.”

Costa Titch, whose songs include Big Flexa and Activate, started his career as a backing dancer before transitioning into a rapper.

In February, he announced on Instagram that he had teamed up with fellow rapper Akon’s label, Konvict Kulture.

In the same month, another South African rapper called AKA, real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was shot in Durban. He was 35 years old.
