With the action now shifting towards one-dayers, Kohli will be more eager for runs and will look to make the most of their form in the ODI 3-game series against the Australians from game 17 in Mumbai.
Several records await Kohli in his preferred format, one of which will be Ricky Ponting’s record for most ODI home races.
Kohli is just 48 races away from passing the Australian legend for most races in home ODIs. While Ponting in 153 home ODIs scored 5,406 points, Kohli has 5,348 points in India in 107 games.
Legendary Sachin Tendulkar tops the charts with 6,976 runs in 164 ODIs in India.
Kohli will also need 191 runs to complete 13,000 runs in the ODIs. The 34-year-old will then become the fifth batter after Sachin, Kumar Sangakkara, Ponting and Sanath Jayasuriya to achieve the feat.
With 46 centuries under his belt, Kohli will also aim to close in on Sachin’s ODI record of 49 centuries in the upcoming series against Australia.
