Five Connecticut Children Killed in Crash in New York City After Car Went Off the Road and Hit a Tree | US News

Five children between the ages of eight and 17 died as a result of an accident in the United States.

Police believe the vehicle was driven by a 16-year-old boy when it exited Hutchinson River Parkway, Scarsdale, New York.

The vehicle then struck a tree and caught fire early Sunday morning.

The identities of those killed have not been released.

But the victims are believed to include four boys and a girl from Connecticut, a state west of New York, according to NBC.

The sixth person in the car, a nine-year-old boy, was the only survivor.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, a Westchester County Police spokesman said.

Police added he was in the back of the car when it crashed and managed to escape.

The superintendent of schools in Derby, Connecticut, said he learned the children were part of a family that recently moved to the county from New York.

“It’s the unimaginable,” said Matthew Conway Jr..

“Having to make arrangements now for the burial of five of your children is a very difficult thing for anyone – one child, never mind five that you’re now going to have to make arrangements for,” Conway added.

He said he reached out to his father, offering support and information.
