Rohit Sharma wants India’s IPL players to handle workload ahead of ODI World Cup | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma wants his national team mates to manage their workload during the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the ODI World Cup on domestic soil during the year.
A recurring back injury kept the hitter average Shreyas Iyer out in the one-day home series against Australia, which the tourists won 2-1 on Wednesday, as pace leads Jasprit Bumra has been out since September due to back issues.
Rohit said players should consider missing the occasional IPL match, but also admitted it now all depends on the franchises.

“Now it’s all up to the franchises. Now they own them,” Rohit, who leads the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, told reporters following India’s 21-run defeat in Chennai on Wednesday.
Rohit acknowledged that IPL sides will be looking to field their best squad in every game and said it was up to the players to look after themselves ahead of the October-November World Cup.
“We’ve given some guidance to the teams, but in the end it’s up to the franchises and more importantly, it’s up to the players,” Rohit said.
“They’re all adults, they have to take care of their bodies. If they feel it’s getting a bit too much, they can talk about it and take a break in a game or two. I doubt that will happen.”

In terms of form, Rohit has played down the struggles of Suryakumar Yadav throughout the ODI series, the world’s top T20 batsman falling for a duck on first ball in each of the three matches.
“I don’t know how much to examine him. He got three good balls, to be honest,” said Rohit.
“He plays so well with spin… That’s why we’ve retained him and given him that role for the last 15-20 overs where he can play his game, but it’s really a shame he can only play three balls. It can happen to anyone .”
