NEW DELHI: India veteran and Gujarat Titans leader mohamed chami Friday joined the Indian Premier League’s elite 100-wicket club, when they fired the striker from Chennai Super Kings Devon Conway in the opening of the 2023 season.
Shami became the 19th bowler to achieve the tournament feat.
Shami gave the hosts and defending champions Gujarat Titans a bright start by knocking out CSK’s opener in the third in the contest. It was also the first wicket to fall in the new season.
Pacer castled Conway’s stumps with a one-delivery peach for just 1, reducing CSK to 14/1 in 2.2 overs. Conway didn’t read Shami’s delivery and ended up missing the ball entirely and the stumps flying through the air.

Shami returned numbers of 2 for 29 in 4 overs against CSK. The pacer now has 101 wickets in 94 IPL matches at an average of 28.09. With best numbers of 3/15, the pacer conceded runs at an economy of 8.50 in the championship.
Chennai Super Kings Dwayne Bravo is the top wicket taker in the IPL with 183 wickets in 161 matches followed by Mumbai Indians legend Lasith Malinga who has 170 wickets in 122 matches.
