An MP/MLA special court in Ranchi on Wednesday rejected the petition filed on behalf of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, seeking exemption from personal appearance in the case filed against him for his remark about the “surname Modi” during a election rally in Ranchi. A local resident and lawyer Pradip Modi had sent a legal notice to Rahul, asking him to apologize for his remarks about the “Modi last name” in Ranchi.
After Pradip received no response, he filed a complaint with the court, which took note. Pradip said, “Rahul moved the Jharkhand High Court to quash the lower court decision (to hear the case) but the petition was dismissed in July 2022. As the proceeding started in the special court MP/MLA, Rahul filed petition under section 205 cpc.”
