NEW DELHI: In the midst of a major promotion effort female participation in military and other fields, the republic day the fashion show will see the participation of only women in parades of forces, tableaux and performances.
A note has been circulated to all defense forces along with other key stakeholders from the Defense Ministry’s ceremonial branch which organizes the Republic Day parade in coordination with all other ministries and departments, ANI defense sources said.
“After detailed deliberations, it has been decided that Republic Day 2024 will have women’s participation, including contingents (marches and marching bands), tableaux and performances during the parade at Kartavya Trail,” they said.
The defense ministry has informed other ministries, including internal affairs, culture and urban development, of the decision to hold the all women’s parade in the coming year.
In recent years, Defense Forces and paramilitary contingents have chosen female commanders and deputy contingent commanders in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push to promote the participation of women in all possible roles in the military, as they have had opportunities to command along with deployment in combat roles.
Through such opportunities, women were able to be fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force and were also inducted into the army as jawans.
Recently the Army also opened the Artillery Regiment for female officers.
