Trump: Trump’s video deposition in civil rape trial made public

NEW YORK: A video of former President Donald Trump’s sworn testimony in a US rape and libel trial against him was released on Friday.
The footage, some of which was shown in court this week, shows Asset when asked about his infamous comments in the leaked “Access Hollywood” tape before the 2016 election.
Trump says during recorded deposition in October 2022 that his comments that famous people had the right to sexually assault women were “historically” true “over the last million years.”
“I guess that’s mostly true. Not always, but mostly true. Unfortunately or fortunately,” Trump said under questioning by his accuser’s attorney E. Jean Carroll.
“And you consider yourself a star? asks the lawyer, Roberta Kaplan. “I think you can say that, yes,” Trump replies.
The video also shows Trump confusing Carroll with his ex-wife Marla Maples on an old photograph.
“It’s very unclear,” Trump said, after his lawyer pointed out his mistake.
Trump reiterates his claim that he doesn’t know who Carroll is and repeatedly says “she’s not my type.”
Members of the press asked the judge presiding over the civil trial to release the video, who ruled that it belonged to the parties.
Carroll sued Trump last year, alleging he raped her in a New York City department store in the mid-1990s.
She also claims he defamed her when he accused her of lying after going public with the allegation in 2019.
Trump has repeatedly and strenuously denied the allegations and has not been criminally prosecuted over them.
Carroll’s lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for psychological trauma and other damages and asks Trump to withdraw his comments.
Lawyers for both sides closed their case on Thursday and the nine-person jury is expected to reach a verdict next week.
The case is one of several legal challenges Trump faces as the 76-year-old Republican seeks to return to the White House in next year’s election.
Last month he pleaded not guilty in a criminal case related to a silent payment made to a porn star just before the 2016 vote.
Trump is also under investigation over his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the southern state of Georgia, his alleged mishandling of classified documents taken from the White House and his involvement in taking storming of the US Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021. .
