HELSINKI: the outgoing Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin filed for divorce jointly with her husband of three years Markus Raikkonenthey said on Instagram on Wednesday.
“We are grateful for our 19 years together and for our beloved daughter. We will remain best friends,” they said in separate Instagram Stories.
Marin and Raikkonen, who until recently worked at a venture capital firm, share a 5-year-old daughter. They tied the knot in 2020 while Marin was on duty to deal with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We lived through our youth together, came of age together and became parents to our dear daughter together,” Marin wrote on Instagram after her August 2020 wedding to Raikkonen.
Marin and his Social Democratic Party lost the Finnish parliamentary elections last month, behind the right-wing National Coalition Party and the Nationalist Party of Finns.
Marin, 37, the world’s youngest prime minister when she took office in 2019, is seen by fans around the world as a millennial role model for progressive new leaders, even though voters at home opted for a new government.
