NEW DELHI: About 2,500 kg of narcotics it was worth around Rs 1,200 crore seized off the west coast of India and arrested a suspected Pakistani national, the NCB he said on Saturday, calling it the largest meth seizure in the country.
The record seizure was carried out by the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency in a joint operation with the Navyhe said.
The drug cache had begun on a “mother ship” — a large vessel that distributes narcotics to various vessels during its voyage — from the Makran coast around Pakistan and Iran, he said.
As many as 134 bags of suspected methamphetamine, a Pakistani national, the intercepted boat and some other items recovered from the vessel were taken to Mattancherry Wharf in Kochi in Kerala and handed over by the Navy to the Narcotics Control Bureau, he said.
“NCB has commenced seizure proceedings and the primary analysis is that all packages contain high purity methamphetamine.
“As seizure procedures are still ongoing, the exact amount of methamphetamine recovered is not yet clear. However, from the number of packages recovered, we estimate it to be around 2,500kg,” the NCB said.
