‘Dhoni’s knee has not been 100 percent’: Hussey on CSK skipper batting down the order | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Mike Hussey has shed light on skipper MS Dhoni’s approach of beating the order, citing his knee injury as the reason. Hussey said: “It’s pretty clear he likes to come in the final overs, that’s his plan. His knee hasn’t been 100 per cent and he’s trying to get through games as best he can throughout. tournament. I don’t want to come in early and have to do fast doubles, putting pressure on the knee.”
Hussey acknowledged Dhoni’s preference to delay entering the game in order to make a significant impact in the latter stages of innings. Dhoni trusts his teammates, as Hussey explained, “He shows a lot of support and trust in Dube, Jadeja, Rahane and Rayudu to get the job done before he comes on.”
Although Dhoni was seen limping and facing difficulties while running between the wickets, he continued to keep the wickets and contribute valuable cameos. Reflecting on Dhoni’s commitment, Hussey added: “He tries to get through the matches as best he can throughout the tournament.” Hussey mentioned Dhoni’s lap around the Chepauk with an ice pack over his knee after a recent match against KKR.

Praising Dhoni’s impact and the support he receives, Hussey pointed out: “The support we have is amazing everywhere, he blew our minds. MS is a legend in the game.”
He further expressed his belief that Dhoni can continue playing for the next five years, saying, “He is still hitting great, always motivated to come to training and work on his game and hit the ball well. .. He still has the six-striking ability, while he takes advantage of that and contributes to the team, there’s no reason why he can’t continue for maybe another five years .”

He thanked Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming for providing Dube with clarity and support, saying, “A lot of credit goes to MS and Fleming, they gave him a lot of clarity and support in his role.” Hussey praised Dube’s adaptability and power, underscoring the team’s intention to make the most of his abilities.
Speaking about the team’s progress, Hussey noted the improvement in CSK’s bowling offense as the season progressed. He highlighted the bowlers’ execution under pressure and the confidence brought by the inclusion of Matheesha Pathirana as the lead death bowler, saying: “Having someone like Matheesha, who has been our No. 1, added confidence to the group.”
