Teen uses slingshot to save eight-year-old sister from being kidnapped | US News

A 13-year-old boy saved his little sister from a kidnapping by using his slingshot to fend off the attacker.

Owen Burns took aim out a window when he heard the eight-year-old boy screaming outside their home in Alpena Township in northern Michigan.

He originally thought she was “joking” with friends, but he threw down his video game and sprang into action when he heard her scream for the second time.

“So I looked out the window and saw her being kidnapped by someone and I freaked out,” she told local network WWTV/WWUP-TV.

“I take my slingshot and open the window and grab two things: a marble and a pebble rock or something.”

Her quick thinking gave her sister a chance to escape, and police said her “extraordinary” actions on May 10 could have saved her life.

“I was just lucky. It’s just a big target because it’s not like a can of Pepsi,” Owen said.

A 17-year-old male was charged with attempted kidnapping and other charges, and police said he had visible injuries from being shot in the head and chest.

Owen said he had to act, but that things could easily have turned out differently.

He told reporters, “If I wasn’t out there and I didn’t hear her scream, then she was gone.”
