Shubman Gill: Sensational Shubman Gill slams third IPL century | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: In a glittering display of power shots, the Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill hit eight sixes on his way to a blistering century off just 49 balls during the IPL Qualifier 2 against the Mumbai Indians at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday.
This was Gill’s third century in four innings this season, cementing his position as one of the best players in the tournament. With this incredible strike, he amassed over 800 runs in the 2023 IPL. In addition to eight sixes, Gill also hit four boundaries in his whirlwind innings.

In achieving this feat Gill joined an elite list, becoming only the second player after Michael Klinger to score three centuries in four T20 innings.
He reached his century with a single stroke Cameron Green in the 14th over, becoming the seventh player to score a hundred in the IPL playoffs. Notably, at the age of 23 years and 260 days, he became the youngest player to reach this milestone.

His century off 49 also ranks him among the fastest centuries in the IPL playoffs, sharing the record with Wriddhiman Saha (2014 Final) and Rajat Patidar (2022 Eliminator). Furthermore, Gill’s three centuries in the season places him just behind Virat Kohli (4 centuries in 2016) and Jos Buttler (4 centuries in 2022) for the most hundreds in an IPL season.
Going into the match, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and was elected first to field in the crucial playoff fixture.
