Antim Panghal and Sujeet Kalkal move Delhi High Court, challenge trial exemption given to Bajrang, Vinesh | More sports News

NEW DELHI: wrestlers Antim Panghal And Subject Kalkal disputed Wednesday in the Delhi High Court exemption granted to Vinesh Phogat And Bajrang Punished for the asian games essays, demanding a fair selection process for the quadrennial centerpiece.
The joint petition of the two wrestlers was mentioned before Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, who scheduled the case for Thursday.
The petition, submitted by lawyers Hrishikesh Baruah and Akshay Kumar, demanded that the directive issued by the IOA’s ad hoc committee regarding the two categories (men’s freestyle 65kg and women’s 53kg) be rescinded and that the exemption granted to Bajrang and Vinesh be fixed. The petition demanded that the trials be conducted fairly, without granting exemptions to any wrestlers, and that the entire process be filmed.
“These wrestlers said during their protest at Jantar Mantar that their fight is for justice and for the cause of junior wrestlers and now they want to take out junior wrestlers, so we had to go to court against this decision,” Dayanand said. Kalkal, father of Sujeet, told PTI.
“From the beginning of their protest, the intention was to get exemptions from trial, that’s why we never sided with them. People were blind and couldn’t see what their intention was.
“If these famous wrestlers beat up-and-coming wrestlers and walk away, no one will complain. It is indeed a matter of pride that our children can compete against such accomplished athletes. There must be a fair trial “, he added.
To the chagrin of their competitors in the categories where Bajrang Punia (65kg) and Vinesh (53kg) compete, the ad hoc panel of the IOA has decided to exempt these two wrestlers from the July 22 and 23 events.
As per the ad hoc panel’s directive, the trials will be conducted in all 18 weight categories, including 65kg and 53kg, but the winners will not compete in the Asian Games, rather they will be reserve options.
Panghal, 19, from Hisar, and Sujeet, 21, who trains at Sonepat, questioned the ad hoc panel’s decision through separate videos.
Panghal asked what was special about Vinesh for her to get a bye, hinting that she could beat her in the tryouts.
Sujeet also said that there are at least 5-6 wrestlers in the country in the 65 kg category capable of beating Bajrang.
