ICC fines India, West Indies for slow over-rate in first T20I | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: India and West Indies have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first T20 International of the five-match series at Tarouba, Trinidad.

India were fined five percent of their match fee for falling one over short of the required over-rate. On the other hand, West Indies received a 10 percent fine for falling two overs short of the minimum over-rate.

The sanctions were imposed by Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees after considering time allowances. Hardik Pandya‘s side (India) was found one over short, while Rovman Powell‘s side (West Indies) was found two overs short of the target over-rate.
As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined five percent of their match fees for each over if their team fails to bowl within the allotted time. However, there is a cap of 50 percent of the match fee.

Both Pandya and Powell pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted the proposed sanctions, which meant that a formal hearing was not required.
In the match itself, India suffered a narrow defeat, losing by four runs. The second T20I of the series will take place at Providence, Guyana, on Sunday.
