Historic bronze for India in women’s sepaktakraw at Asian Games

NEW DELHI: India made history at the Asian Games by securing their first-ever medal in women’s sepaktakraw.
The Indian women’s regu team clinched a well-deserved bronze after a valiant effort in the semifinals, even though they faced the formidable team from Thailand.

The Indian contingent, consisting of Ayekpam Maipak Devi, Oinam Chaoba Devi, Khushbu, Elangbam Priya Devi, and Elangbam Leirentombi Devi, displayed remarkable skills but fell short, losing 10-21, 13-21 in the semifinal match.
Thailand, who are the reigning champions in this event, proved to be a formidable opponent. In sepaktakraw, both semifinalists are awarded bronze medals.

This historic achievement marks the first-ever medal for India in women’s sepaktakraw at the Asian Games, and it is only the second medal for the country in the sport. Previously, the Indian men’s regu team had secured a bronze in the 2018 Asian Games.
