Israel: ‘Free Palestine’: Hundreds rally against Israel in Michigan

NEW DELHI: Hundreds of people gathered in Dearborn, a city in Michigan, for a rally supporting the Palestinians after Hamas launched an attack on Israel. The protest took place at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center.

Amer Zahr, president of the New Generation for Palestine, leading the cheer chanted, “Free free Palestine,” according to Fox2 Detroit.
Zahr said that they were not ashamed to stand for Palestinians as whatever happened in Israel was not an unprovoked attack but a response to 75 years of oppression and occupation.
“This is not complicated, this is simply racism, apartheid, occupation, and ethnic cleansing,” he said and added that they were here to protest, and to stand against it which is going on since 1948.”
While violence continues in Gaza, Palestine, and Israel, he said, “We are a room full of love, full of hope, full of faith,” Zahr said. “We have a homeland, we love our people. We love justice.”
Meanwhile, the West is standing against the attack. Earlier today, European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen said that the Palestinian militant group Hamas’s attack was a cold-blooded ‘act of war’ and fully backed Israel’s right to defend itself.
Addressing the meeting of European commissioners, von der Leyen supported a full review of the EU’s multi-million-euro financial support for Palestinian projects.
Meanwhile Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the West to rally around the people of Israel as they did around Ukraine after Russia’s invasion and show them they are not ‘alone’. “My recommendation to the leaders is to go to Israel and I think to support people, just people I’m not speaking about any institutions, just to support people who have been under terrorist attacks,” he said on a visit to NATO headquarters.
On Monday, the US also came forward to help Israel. US President Joe Biden said that he has directed his team to work with Israeli counterparts, according to the Department of Defence.
“While we are still working to confirm, we believe it is likely that American citizens may be among those being held by Hamas,” Biden said. “I have directed my team to work with their Israeli counterparts on every aspect of the hostage crisis, including sharing intelligence and deploying experts from across the United States government to consult with and advise Israeli counterparts on hostage recovery efforts.”
The senior defense official said the unprecedented Hamas attack is notable for its violence. “I want to differentiate this from other times we have seen conflicts between Israel and Hamas in Gaza,” the official said. “This is ISIS-level savagery that we have seen committed against Israeli civilians — houses burned to the ground, young people massacred at music festivals.”
Hamas launched a barbaric ‘surprise attack’ on Israel on October 7.
