Cyclone Michaung: Several flights cancelled, delayed at rain-hit Chennai airport | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Several flights were cancelled and at least 20 flights were delayed as heavy rains lashed the city on Monday morning, as coastal districts of Tamil Nadu brace for Cyclone Michaung impact.
The airlines have advised passengers to check flight status before reaching the airport. However, the airport operations continue.

The heavy rain has led to severe waterlogging across the city and other parts of the state.
At least 14 subways in Chennai have also been closed, while suburban train services have been temporarily suspended.

The electricity and internet services also saw disruption. Tangedco officials said power has been suspended as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the directorate of public health has urged people to drink boiled water.
“Heating water to a rolling boil will inactivate pathogenic bacteria, viruses and protozoa,” said Dr T S Selva Vinayagam, director of public health.
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rain at one or two places over Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu.

The weather agency said that heavy to very heavy rain likely to occur at one or two places over Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram districts of Tamilnadu.
Whereas, heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over Cuddalore, Kallakurichi and Tirupattur districts of Tamilnadu and Puducherry.
Coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have also braced for heavy rain over the next two days, with Cyclone Michaung expected to make a landfall on south coast of Andhra on Tuesday.
