Foreign minister S Jaishankar to begin Russia visit to boost business ties | India News

NEW DELHI: Foreign minister S Jaishankar will visit Russia from December 25 to 29 as a part of the ongoing high-level exchanges between the two countries, said the government.
Apart from meeting his counterpart Sergey Lavrov, Jaishankar will also hold talks with deputy PM and trade minister Denis Manturov to discuss ways to enhance economic engagement. With Lavrov, he will discuss regional and global issues including the war in Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Jaishankar will hope to compensate for the fact that the annual India-Russia summit again could not take place this year. The two countries have an annual summit mechanism but the last such meeting took place in late 2021 when President Vladimir Putin visited India. The two countries were earlier in talks for a summit this year that would have seen PM Modi visiting Moscow. Jaishankar’s programme will include engagements in Moscow and in St Petersburg.
