Ahmedabad Dog Owner Sentenced to 1 Year in Jail for Pet Attacks | India News

AHMEDABAD: Cynics who fret that the law has no teeth need look no further than Bhadresh Pandya. The Ahmedabad dog-owner was sentenced Friday to a year in prison as his Doberman bit and attacked neighbours, one of whom strapped the legal leash on the 54-year-old.
The order handed down by an Ahmedabad sessions court, unseen in recent memory, also fines Pandya Rs 1,500 and asks the legal service authority to pay the victims compensation that it deems fit. Pandya has been told to surrender within 30 days.
Pandya’s neighbour Avinash Patel filed the case alleging he, his son Jay, nephew Takshil and another child were attacked by Pandya’s dog in 2014 at their Ashapuri Society in Ghodasar area. Patel, who fell and broke one of his hands, alleged in his FIR that Pandya had not kept his Doberman on leash.
