Refrain from publishing false content on Ram temple event, Centre tells media | India News

NEW DELHI: With fake news about the upcoming Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya flooding social media and some of it being picked up by mainstream media outlets, the ministry of information & broadcasting on Saturday issued an advisory to newspapers and TV channels to “refrain from publishing or telecasting any content that may be false or manipulated or has the potential to disturb communal harmony or public order”.

The ministry said it has observed that certain unverified, provocative and fake messages are being spread, especially on social media, which can disturb communal harmony and public order.

“Newspapers, private satellite TV channels and publishers of news and current affairs on digital media are advised to refrain from publishing/telecasting any content that may be false or manipulated or has the potential to disturb communal harmony or public order in the country. Further, as part of their due diligence obligations, the social media platforms are advised to make reasonable efforts to not host, display or publish information of the nature mentioned above,” said the advisory.
The consecration ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol in Ayodhya will be held on January 22 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other dignitaries in attendance.
