Hamas says October 7 attacks ‘necessary step’, admits to ‘faults’

NEW DELHI: The Hamas militant group has released a 16-page report in English and Arabic justifying its unprecedented attack in Israel on October 7, which has triggered a deadly war in the region.
The group said that the attack was a “necessary step” against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, AFP reported.
However, Hamas also admitted that there were some faults in the operation due to the rapid collapse of the Israeli security and military system, which caused chaos along the border areas with Gaza.
According to official Israeli figures, the attacks resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,140 people, mostly civilians.
The group claimed that these attacks were a necessary response to confront Israeli conspiracies against the Palestinian people.
During the attack, Hamas seized around 250 hostages, and Israel reported that about 132 hostages remain in Gaza, with at least 27 believed to have been killed.
Hamas has called for an immediate halt to the Israeli aggression on Gaza, condemning the crimes and ethnic cleansing committed against the entire Gaza population.
The group also rejected any international or Israeli efforts to decide Gaza’s post-war future.
They emphasized that the Palestinian people have the right to decide their own future and internal affairs, stating that no party in the world has the right to decide on their behalf.
