Stock market today: Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, opened higher on Tuesday, following positive cues from global markets. The BSE Sensex climbed over 600 points and Nifty50 was above 21,700.
At 9:46 AM, BSE Sensex was trading at 71,979.35, up over 550 points or 0.78%. Nifty50 was trading at Rs 21,723.20, up over 150 points or 0.70%.
Leading the gains were banking, energy, and IT stocks. ICICI Bank, Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, and Infosys opened with gains, while Asian Paints, HDFC Bank, Maruti, and HUL opened with cuts.
In a setback for Zee Entertainment, shares of the company opened with a 10% lower circuit. This comes after Sony Group announced the cancellation of a $10 billion merger with Zee’s Indian unit. Sony cited that the merger’s closing conditions were not satisfied despite good faith discussions.
