10 police personnel killed in attack on police station in Pakistan

NEW DELHI: 10 police personnel were killed and six were injured in a militant attack on a police station in northwest Pakistan on Monday, according to the police.
The attack occurred at 3am local time (2200 GMT) when militants first targeted constables using snipers and then they breached the police station, causing further havoc, as reported by police officers in Pakistan’s Draban region.
Malik Anees ul Hassan, the deputy superintendent of police in Draban said, “After entering the building of the police station, the terrorists used hand grenades which caused more casualties to the police.”
Since 2022, Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence of attacks by Islamist militants, particularly directed at security personnel, following the breakdown of a ceasefire between the Pakistani Taliban and the government.
In December, at least 23 soldiers lost their lives when a six-man suicide squad drove an explosive-laden truck into a military camp situated within a police station complex in northwest Pakistan.
This attack comes at a time when the country is gearing up for its national elections later this week, and there has been a concerning rise in violence in recent days.
