Videographer shot as his camera battery dies at birthday event in Bihar

PATNA: A 22-year-old videographer died after being shot in the mouth after he failed to record a birthday party completely as his camera’s battery got discharged in the middle of the celebration at Makhnaha village under Baheri police station in Darbhanga district late Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Sushil Kumar Sahni, a resident of the same village. He died during treatment at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
According to police, Sushil was hired by one Rakesh Sahni, a co-villager, for videography of his daughter’s birthday. However, the videography was interrupted after Sushil’s camera’s battery got discharged in the middle of the birthday celebration. Furious over this, Rakesh (the accused) first abused him and then pumped a bullet into his mouth. Rakesh and his friends took Sushil to the DMCH, but left him at the hospital gate and ran away. Hospital staff rushed him to the emergency ward where he died during treatment.
Angry of the incident, villagers blocked the traffic on Laheriasarai main road on Thursday morning, demanding immediate arrest of the accused. They also disrupted traffic movements for several hours, leading to traffic jam for about one kilometer on both sides of the road. The blockade was cleared after Benipur SDPO Sumit Kumar reached the spot and pacified the protesting villagers.
“Father of the deceased has lodged an FIR against Rakesh, who is absconding after the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that Rakesh is also involved in illegal liquor trade. We have detained three persons for interrogation in this connection, and raids are being conducted to nab the accused,” the SDPO said.
