7 killed in rain-related accidents in Jammu & Kashmir | India News

SRINAGAR: Seven people lost their lives in two weather-related accidents in J&K on Sunday as heavy rain lashed the region, bringing temperatures down to negative in the upper reaches.
According to officials, a woman identified as Phalla Akther (30) and her three minor daughters — two-month-old Samreen Kousar, and Nasima Akther and Safeen Kousar, aged two and three years, respectively — died when the roof of their house collapsed at Kunderdhan Morha Band in Reasi district of Jammu division. Two others — Kalu (60) and his wife Bano Begum (58) — were injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.
In Uri, eyewitnesses reported seeing three labourers being swept away by Jhelum during a demolition operation on an old bridge across the gushing river. However, police refrained from making definitive statements, saying: “Nothing can be said with certainty at the moment. Investigation is on.”
The inclement weather in Kashmir over the past two days resulted in rain and snowfall across the region. Consequently, the night temperatures plummeted, with Gulmarg recording a chilling minus 10.6°C, while Srinagar registered a minimum of minus 0.6°C on Sunday.
In contrast, Jammu experienced a milder night, with the minimum temperature recorded at 9.2°C, exceeding the normal range by 3.1°C for the city.
