A former professional wrestler who Donald Trump endorsed to run for state congress is a suspect in a Las Vegas murder probe.
Daniel Rodimer, 45, surrendered to officers on Wednesday after police said they had obtained an arrest warrant on a murder charge.
Rodimer, who ran for office in Nevada, is a suspect in relation to the death of Chris Tapp, who spent two decades in prison for a murder he did not commit.
After being exonerated in 2019, Mr Tapp became an advocate for the wrongfully convicted.
On 29 October last year he was treated by medical personnel for a head injury at a Las Vegas Strip hotel.
The 47-year-old Idaho man was taken to hospital where he later died. The coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide.
Police have not provided any additional details about Mr Tapp’s relationship with Rodimer.
Rodimer was the runner-up for a seat in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District in 2020, losing to incumbent Suzanne Lee by about three percentage points.
His lawyers said in a statement that Rodimer was “voluntarily surrendering to authorities” and intends on “vigorously contesting the allegations”.

Police said detectives opened a suspicious death investigation after they received new information on 22 November about the injuries Mr Tapp had suffered.
“Through the course of the suspicious death investigation … detectives have learned Tapp was in an altercation inside a room at the resort before being located and transported to the hospital,” police said
