NEW DELHI: Archaeologists have made an exciting discovery at the Abraq archaeological site in the Umm Al Quwain region of UAE.
According to Reuters, three golden coins, estimated to be 2,000 years old, have been found at this ancient site of Tell Abraq. The site dating back to 2500 BC, is considered one of the country’s most significant archaeological sites.

Alongside the coins, experts have also also found statues and made other discoveries.
Director of the Italian Archaeologist mission, Michele Degli Esposti said, “You know, these coins were circulating in the first century AD. They are imitations of coins minted in the Roman Empire in France – in Leon precisely, under the reign of Emperor Tiberius, between 17 and 31 A.D.”
“And these are very important also because they tell us about the context of the site with the surrounding world,” Esposti told Reuters.
“And then we found evidence of domestic dwellings dated to the last century before Christ. And so this is why – I mean, it is really a reference site for the archaeology of the region,” he added.
