Govt nod to resettlement benefits for cadets injured during training | India News

NEW DELHI: A proposal for extension of resettlement facilities to cadets boarded out of military academies on medical grounds, after being injured during rigorous physical training, has been approved by defence minister Rajnath Singh.
“The decision was taken as cadets join military academies at a young age with the intention of joining armed forces as officers. They show commitment to serve the nation in uniform, but are unfortunate in being invalidated out. Since decades, such cadets and their parents have been demanding such resettlement opportunities,” an official said.
Another proposal of department of ex-servicemen welfare to allow extension of benefits of schemes run by directorate general of resettlement has also been approved for such cadets to enhance opportunities for them. These schemes range from allotment of Mother Dairy milk booths & Safal shops to eligibility certificates for allotment of retail petrol/diesel outlets & LPG distributorships. “This will help over 500 cadets who have been boarded out on medical grounds to access the schemes and ensure a brighter future for them. Cadets in a similar condition in the future will get the same benefits,” he said.
As per existing rules, cadets are treated as officers only after they are commissioned.
