Watch – ‘Unreal humiliation’: Hardik Pandya faces a massive backlash from fans | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Hardik Pandya‘s debut as Mumbai Indians captain was met with widespread dismay from fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. This reaction strongly indicated disapproval towards the team management’s choice to replace Rohit Sharma with Pandya as captain.
From fans, commentators, to cricket experts, Pandya found himself at the center of criticism for the decisions he made during MI’s opening match against Gujarat Titans.
Social media was flooded with videos reflecting the sentiment of fans who were clearly unwilling to accept Pandya as the skipper of Mumbai Indians.

Pandya was booed by the Ahmedabad crowd that even left former England player Kevin Pietersen in disbelief, stating that he has never seen an Indian player receive such treatment before.
“I have never seen any Indian player getting booed like they are booing Hardik Pandya here in Ahmedabad. This is a rare happening,” Pietersen said on air.
Pietersen also raised doubts about Pandya’s decision to bowl the first over himself instead of opting for Jasprit Bumrah.
Why is Jasprit Bumrah not opening the bowling? I don’t understand this”. Fellow commentator Sunil Gavaskar endorsed his view: “Very good question. Very, very good question.”
Former India head coach Anil Kumble also took a dig at Pandya for not revealing the names when he was asked about the team combination by presenter Ravi Shastri at the toss.
Pandya said they had ‘four quicks, three spinners, and seven batters’ to cover all departments.
“I would never expect Hardik to tell us the names as well. Four fast bowlers, three spinners, five batters, 11 fielders, we all know that. Who are those?,” Kumble said on Jio Cinema.
His move of sending Tim David ahead of him also drew criticism with Irfan Pathan suggesting that the new MI skipper may be looking to avoid facing Rashid Khan.
