Lok Sabha elections: Ghulam Nabi Azad to contest polls from Anantnag-Rajouri constituency with DPAP | Jammu News

NEW DELHI: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who recently parted ways with the Congress after 50 years, is set to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency under his new party, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP).
DPAP leader Taj Mohiuddin confirmed the decision and told reporters, “today the core committee of DPAP met and we have decided that (party president) Ghulam Nabi Azad will contest the Anantnag-Rajouri seat.”
Azad is fighting the Lok Sabha polls for the first time after the loss in 2014 elections from Udhampur constituency.
Meanwhile, Mohiuddin also talked about a potential alliance with Altaf Bukhari‘s Apni Party saying that talks have not progressed due to time constraints. He said, “we are short of time and there was not much headway in talks. So it is better they do their bit and we do ours. They were not in any case interested in Anantnag seat.”
