‘Hampering trial’: Court asks NIA to verify Pragya Thakur’s health condition, submit report | India News

NEW DELHI: A special NIA court on Wednesday directed Mumbai NIA team to get in touch with the Bhopal NIA team and physically verify the health status of Malegaon blast case accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.
The court observed that her absence in recording the CrPC 313 statement is hampering the court proceedings and delaying the trial. The court further observed that the BJP MP allowed her exemption only based on her medical reports.
Last month, a special judge issued a bailable warrant of Rs 10,000 against BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur for failing to appear before the NIA court in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. On March 5, through her lawyer Thakur, an accused in the case, sought exemption on health grounds and submitted a photocopy of the medical certificate which showed that she was ill and advised to take rest.
The court has also asked NIA to file a detailed report about her health on April 8 2024.
Among the accused are Lt Col Prasad Purohit, Sameer Kulkarni, Ajay Rahirkar, Retd Maj Ramesh Upadhyay, Sudhakar Dwivedi and Sudhakar Chaturvedi. They are all out on bail.
