IPL 2024: KKR captain Shreyas Iyer fined Rs 12 lakh – here’s why | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer has been penalized with a fine of Rs 12 lakh due to a slow over-rate in the recent IPL match against Rajasthan Royals.
The game, which took place here, concluded with KKR facing defeat by a narrow margin of two wickets. The match was particularly notable for Jos Buttler‘s impressive performance, where he scored an unbeaten 107 runs off just 60 balls, leading the Royals to victory.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) issued a statement confirming the fine on Shreyas Iyer. “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the release clarified.

This setback for KKR came amid their IPL campaign, where they have now recorded their second loss in six games. On the other hand, the win for the Rajasthan Royals marked their sixth triumph in seven matches, placing them in a strong position in the tournament.
The fine imposed on Iyer serves as a reminder for teams to adhere to the IPL’s regulations, including maintaining the required over-rate. The enforcement of such rules is crucial to ensure the smooth conduct of the games and adherence to the scheduled timings, which are important for broadcasters and fans alike.
