‘Unless someone takes a double hat-trick’: Shubman Gill’s cheeky response on defending 89 | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: After Gujarat Titans succumbed to their lowest ever total in the Indian Premier League, a miracle or two were needed if they were to defend 89.
But on expected lines, Delhi Capitals made light work of the chase, securing their biggest win ever — in terms of balls (67) — and cruised to their third win of the season.
While Titans skipper humbly accepted that the batters had a nightmare outing in their heavy thrashing, the 24-year-old admitted that defending such small totals is next to impossible.
Although Titans bowlers did manage four wickets amid DC’s attempt to finish the game in no time, Gill cheekily said a double hat-trick was needed for the miracle win to happen.
“When the opposition is chasing 89, unless someone takes a double hat-trick, you cannot win,” Gill responded to hopes of pulling off a near-impossible win.
With only three batters getting to the double-digit scores in a horrendous batting display, Gill refused to blame the pitch and conditions and said that his batters were at fault.
“Our batting was very average. Need to move on from this game and come back with the same mindset before the next game. The wicket was alright. If you see our dismissals – me, Saha and Sai – it had nothing to do with the pitch,” Gill said.
With their third defeat of the season, last-year’s finalists Titans are now at the seventh spot while Delhi are at sixth position.
Rampant Rajasthan Royals continue to sit at the top spot with 6 wins in 7 matches.
