NEW DELHI: The Northern Angami constituency in Nagaland witnessed history as Government Middle School transformed into the state’s first polling station managed entirely by women officers.
Despite facing a minor setback with a malfunctioning voting machine, the atmosphere remained serene and orderly at the polling station in Chedema village. People patiently queued up to exercise their democratic right, acknowledging the significance of this historic moment.
The initiative, spearheaded by Kumar Ramnikant, the administrative head of Kohima district, aimed to challenge societal norms and promote equal participation in governance.”If our country needs proper development, there should be equal contribution from both halves,” emphasized Ramnikant, highlighting the importance of inclusivity at all levels of society.
The women officers, chosen for their dedication and competence, ensured smooth proceedings throughout the day. Eholi Jimo, a local resident, even took charge of cooking dinner for the team, emphasizing the spirit of communal support and camaraderie.
Zhoto Khamo, an experienced officer, praised the meticulousness of her female colleagues, noting, “Women are more systematic. They take every sentence seriously whereas men have an easy attitude.”
