The impact player rule has been attributed to the high-scoring matches this season, as teams are more aggressive with their batting approach from the start, knowing they have the option to bring in an additional batter if needed.Chakaravarthy acknowledged that while the rule existed last year, teams have better understood how to utilize it effectively this season.
“The impact player rule was there last year too but there weren’t as many high scores. The main thing is teams have understood better how to use an impact player this season. They all know that there is extra batting (available if needed) and charge from the first ball. That’s how it’s going. How much ever the bowlers cry, that’s how it is. We have to take up the challenge. You can’t change the size of the ground, you can’t change anything,” he told reporters.
In Monday’s match against Delhi Capitals, Chakaravarthy claimed three crucial wickets, dismissing Rishabh Pant, Tristan Stubbs, and impact player Kumar Kushagra, helping Kolkata restrict Delhi to 153-9 in their 20 overs.
Phil Salt‘s explosive 68 off 33 balls at the top of the order ensured Kolkata chased down the target comfortably with 21 balls to spare, keeping them on course for a playoff berth.
