‘Killer nurse’ in Pennsylvania sentenced to 380-760 years for murdering 17 patients

NEW DELHI: Heather Pressdee, a Pennsylvania nurse, was sentenced to 380-760 years in prison on Saturday for intentionally administering fatal doses of insulin to multiple patients aged 43 to 104 years over a three-year period.
Pressdee was accused for the deaths of at least 17 patients across five health facilities between 2020 and 2023.
She pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and 19 counts of attempted murder, resulting in a life sentence.She was charged of giving excessive insulin doses to 22 patients, including some who were not diabetic, during overnight shifts.
The majority of the patients died either immediately after receiving the dose or at a later time. An insulin overdose can cause hypoglycemia, increase heart rate, and even lead to heart attacks.
Pressdee’s coworkers had earlier complained about her conduct that she displayed hatred towards her patients and frequently made derogatory remarks about them.
Additionally, iIn text messages to her mother, Pressdee expressed her dissatisfaction with patients, colleagues, and even individuals she encountered at restaurants, often mentioning causing harm to them.
Pressdee, during the court proceedings, when asked by one of her lawyers why she was pleading guilty, she responded, “Because I am guilty.”
A family member of one of the victims in the court said, “She is not sick. She is not insane. She is evil personified. I looked into the face of Satan myself the morning she killed my father.”
