Rain causes massive disruptions at T-2 of Bengaluru airport, third time in over a year | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: Heavy rain on Thursday night led to flooding of Terminal 2 (T-2) at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru, causing flight disruptions that continued into the morning.
This is the third time that rain has led to operational disruptions at T-2 in just over a year of its launch.
The downpour, occurring between 21.35pm and 22.29pm, led to flight diversions and operational challenges.
According to a spokesperson from Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the KIA operator, the heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, forced the diversion of 13 domestic flights, 03 international passenger flights, and 01 international cargo flight to Chennai.
This situation echoed a similar incident in October 2023, where passengers had to be shuttled in buses to avoid flooded areas. Additionally, on September 8, just before Terminal 2 was set to open for international operations, disembarking passengers faced difficulties due to a burst head pipe, which disrupted aerobridge usage and necessitated shuttle bus transfers to the terminal.
