NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians’ fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the second pacer in Indian Premier League history to take 20 or more wickets in four different seasons. He has matched the achievement of the team’s bowling coach, Lasith Malinga, who also accomplished this feat during his IPL career.
Bumrah got to the milestone during the IPL 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday. He returned with the figures of 2/39 in 4 overs.
Bumrah looked unplayable and teased the batters by bowling a Test match length, knocking over a clueless Sunil Narine off his first ball with a delivery that angled away but swung in late to rattle his off-stump. He ended his splendid spell by dismissing Rinku Singh for a 12-ball 20.
20 or more wickets in an IPL season most often

  • 5 – Yuzvendra Chahal
  • 4 – Jasprit Bumrah
  • 4 – Lasith Malinga

Rajasthan Royals’ spinner Yuzvendra Chahal holds the record among bowlers for taking 20 or more wickets in five different IPL seasons.
Former Sri Lankan great Malinga, who was renowned for his lethal yorkers, had been a key player for the Mumbai Indians. His unique bowling action and precise death bowling have made him one of the most feared bowlers in the history of the IPL.
Malinga’s ability to take wickets at crucial junctures of the game has often turned matches in his team’s favor, and his record speaks volumes about his impact on the tournament.
Bumrah, known for his unorthodox action and pinpoint accuracy, has been instrumental in Mumbai Indians’ dominance in the IPL. His variations in pace and ability to execute yorkers at will makes him a tough challenge for any batsman.
Bumrah’s consistency over the years has not only earned him accolades in the IPL but also established him as one of the premier fast bowlers in international cricket.
