Canada welcomed 3.9 lakh new citizens in fiscal ended March, ’24

MUMBAI: As Canada gears up to launch its ‘Citizenship Week‘ which starts from May 13, Marc Miller, Immigration Minister said, “We have a lot to celebrate this year. From April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, we welcomed 393,500 new Canadian citizens. We have made significant strides, and we are now processing most new citizenship applications much faster.”
He will be attending citizenship ceremonies across the country.”Citizenship Week gives us all an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be Canadian and give back to our communities. It’s a chance to be proud of our diversity, inclusivity and multiculturalism, and acknowledge the rights and responsibilities we all share as Canadian citizens. A vital part of being Canadian is understanding the history and reality of Indigenous Peoples and their integral role in this country’s past, present and future,”he added.
Country-of-birth data of new Canadian citizens for this period has not yet been rolled out.
Such data is available for calendar year 2022. During 2022, 3.74 lakh permanent residents became Canadian citizens.
The most top three countries of birth among new citizens in 2022 was India (59, 503) followed by the Philippines (41,540) and then Syria (20,355), respectively.
