NEW DELHI: Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto critiqued the team’s batting performance following a 60-run defeat to India in a T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
Shanto himself was dismissed for a duck by India’s Mohammed Siraj early in the second inning. Post-match, Shanto expressed optimism for improvement in the upcoming main tournament matches.

Shanto also provided an update on teammate Shoriful Islam, who was injured during the match and is currently under medical observation.Shoriful sustained the injury while bowling to India’s Hardik Pandya.
In his remarks, Shanto emphasized the need for the team to focus on the future, stating, “Our batting didn’t do well, but I think in the main match we will do better. We aren’t thinking of the past, we need to play brave cricket.” Regarding Shoriful Islam’s condition, he added, “He is still under observation in the hospital, he should be back.”
India, batting first after winning the toss, posted a total of 182/5 in their 20 overs, thanks to significant contributions from Rishabh Pant, who scored 53 off 32 balls, and Hardik Pandya, who remained not out on 40 off 23 balls. Mehndi Hassan was the most effective bowler for Bangladesh, taking 1/22.

In their chase of 183, Bangladesh struggled to build momentum and lost wickets at regular intervals, managing only 122/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Mahmadullah and Shakib al Hasan were notable contributors with scores of 40* and 28, respectively.
For India, Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Dube led the bowling attack, each taking two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, and Hardik Pandya each took a wicket.
