Jasprit Bumrah breaks Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s world record in T20Is | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah kicked off his T20 World Cup 2024 journey with a remarkable feat in the Group A encounter against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday.
Bumrah’s performance showcased his exceptional skills and set a new benchmark in the T20Is. His bowling prowess was on full display as he troubled the Irish batsmen throughout the game.
Rohit Sharma decided to field first after winning the toss.Bumrah was introduced into the attack in the fifth over, which turned out to be a maiden. By doing so, he surpassed Bhuvneshwar Kumar‘s world record for the most maidens bowled by a player from a Test-playing nation in T20 Internationals.
With this achievement, Bumrah’s tally of maidens in T20Is has reached 11, setting a new benchmark for bowlers from full member nations in the shortest format of international cricket.
Overall, only two bowlers have bowled more maidens than Bumrah in the shortest format of the game at the international level: Frank Nsubuga from Uganda with 15 and Shem Ngoche from Kenya with 14.
India’s quartet of fast bowlers were simply menacing on a pitch offering variable bounce and seam movement, dismantling Ireland for a meager 96 in their opening T20 World Cup match.
Arshdeep Singh (2/35 in 4 overs), Mohammed Siraj (1/13 in 3 overs), Jasprit Bumrah (2/6 in 3 overs), and Hardik Pandya (3/27 in 4 overs) gave no breathing space to the Irish batters, who looked like novices against the swing, seam, and extra bounce produced by the four-pronged attack during the 14 of the 16 overs they bowled.
