UN adds Israel, Hamas in list of states committing violations against children

NEW DELHI: The United Nations has added Israel and Hamas in the list of states that have committed crime against children, Guardian reported.
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu declared in a statement that the UN had “added itself to the black list of history when it joined those who support the Hamas murderers”.
Israel’s foreign minister, Israel Katz, issued a warning that the choice will affect his nation’s already tense relations with the UN.The primary organization directing relief to Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria is the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), with which it is refusing to work.
Israel’s inclusion comes a day after it bombed UN school in Gaza killing 40 Palestinians. Over 13,000 children have been killed in Israel’s offensive against Gaza since October 7.
Meanwhile, Hamas is also mentioned in the report for kidnapping and murdering children during its attack on Israel on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of about 1,200 Israelis.
Calling it “shameful”, Israel’s UN envoy Gilad Erdan said that he was “shocked and disgusted” by the move.
The report addresses child abduction or recruitment, sexual abuse, death, maiming, and targeting of hospitals and schools.
