NEW DELHI: Manoj Tiwari, BJP MP Friday rewarded Commonwealth Games medalist wrestler with Rs 5 lakh Divya Kakranwho is currently fighting against the ruling AAP in Delhi, saying she received no support from Kejriwal’s government during her formative years in the city.
Kakran, who won a bronze medal at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, tied a rakhi to Tiwari who pledged his full support.
Kakran lives in the North East region of Delhi which is represented by Tiwari in the Loksabha. The BJP MP visited the wrestler at her home in Gokalpuri in her constituency.
“I came to see my sister so she can tie the rakhi to me. Like a brother, I will give her all the support to make her shine and excel in her field,” Tiwari said after rewarding Kakran with Rs 5 lakh .

Responding to a congratulatory tweet from AAP supremo and Delhi’s chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, the wrestler said on August 7 that she had not received any help from her government.
“Heartfelt thanks to the Chief Minister of Delhi for his congratulations on winning the medal. I have a request for you. I have lived in Delhi for 20 years and practice struggle here, but I have not received and rewarded any money or help from the state government,” she tweeted.
Kakran was attacked by some AAP lawmakers who claimed she did not represent Delhi and participated in sporting events on behalf of Uttar Pradesh.
The Delhi government said on Thursday that the wrestler had received financial aid until 2017, the year she last performed for the city.
The education department of the Delhi government which sports falls under had claimed that Kakran received cash aid of Rs 5,000 in 2010-11, Rs 10,000 in 2012-13, Rs 1 lakh in 2013-14 and Rs 42,000 each in 2014-15. and 2016-17.
“According to records, Divya played for Delhi till 2016-2017 and she received cash bonus based on her performance. Indian Wrestling Federation has confirmed that Divya Kakran has been representing Uttar Pradesh since 2017,” it said. she declared.
Tiwari claimed that he will continue to help Kakran as he has done in the past to help her hone her skills and also promised to support her until justice is served.
