CAIRO: Indian junior shooters went wild as they won up to four more gold medals at the ISSF World Championship tuesday.
The four medals brought India’s total to 20 medals, including nine gold, three silver and eight bronze. They are now ranked second behind China, which has 18 gold medals for a grand total of 37 medals.
India’s gold rush on the sixth day of competition started early with the team of Esha Singh, Shikha Narwhal and Varsha Singh winning the air pistol team in the junior women’s category, beating China 16-6 in the gold medal matchup.
The team had gone around the title on Monday after going through two qualifying stages.
It was then the turn of the Junior Girls Air Rifle and the trio of Ramita, Nancy and Tilottama Sen took gold in the Junior Girls Air Rifle Team competition.
They too beat a Chinese side 16-2 in a dominating display. Earlier in the day, they had also finished the first qualifying round with 941.5 points and the second round with a score of 627.6.
India’s third gold on day six came in the Air Rifle Team Men Junior event where Aishwary Pratap Singh TomarSri Karthik Sabari Raj Ravishankar and Vidit Jain once again edged out China with a favorable score of 17-11 in the final.
The junior riflemen emulated their female counterparts by recording a wire-to-wire win. They had topped the first round earlier in the day with a score of 937.9 after 90 shots and the second round with 626.8 after 60 shots.
In the 25m rapid fire pistol, mixed junior duo Payal Khatri and Adarsh ​​Singh won the fourth and final gold medal of the day, beating duo Feng Sixuan and Liu Yangpan 17-9 in the match for the gold medal.
They finished second in the first round with 567 and topped the second qualifying round with a score of 382.
Sameer picked up his second bronze medal of the day in the same event, where he teamed up with Tejaswini to beat Luo Zizhao and Wang Shiwen of China 16-2 in the bronze medal match.
The pair had finished third in the second qualifying round with a score of 370 and third in the first round also with a score of 560.
His first medal came early in the junior 25m rapid fire pistol team competition where he teamed up with Udhayveer Sidhu and Adarsh ​​Singh to beat Italy 16-2. They had previously finished third in the second qualifying round with a score of 562, to advance to the bronze round.
