Brentford beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, ending City’s 16-game home winning streak with a breathtaking 98th-minute breakaway goal that sealed victory.
At one point Phil Foden took a corner for Manchester City; a chance to set up a winning goal with the scores tied at 1-1 and clocked in added time.
The next day, Yoane Wissa had intercepted the ball and released the wing towards the other end of the field. It passed to Josh Dasilva who worked his way into the box and found Ivan Toney to power up the winner.
It was the Brentford talisman’s second goal of the match and, as he turned to celebrate, he plugged his ears, emphasizing he had a point to prove two days after being left out of the squad of England for the World Cup.
“We just have to keep doing well and keep doing our best and who knows what can happen,” Toney told BT Sport afterwards.
“Obviously it’s a disappointment, but I know what I’m capable of and I won’t let it get me down. I will continue and continue to do well for Brentford. The motivation is the boys in the locker room and the fans.
Toney’s first goal of the game came just 15 minutes after a period of concerted pressure from the visitors, and he headed the ball into the net.

“The better team won, we struggled from the start and couldn’t deal with their long balls. Usually you tap the ball to win it, but this was different. They defended so deep and so well,” City coach Pep Guardiola said afterwards, according to Reuters.
“We have done exceptional things in the Champions League and well in the Premier League. We will come back and prepare for the second part of the season now.
