‘Save the bowlers’: R Ashwin posts SOS message after unreal carnage at Eden Gardens

NEW DELHI: That’s mammoth. The ball travels downtown. It’s gigantic. Enormous. It’s out of the park. Ah! that’s monstrous. The commentators were left nearly speechless during the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Punjab Kings match at Eden Gardens.
Kolkata Knight Riders, after being put into bat by the Punjab Kings, posted an impressive 261/6 in 20 overs. Sunil Narine (71 off 32 balls) and Phil Salt (75 off 37 balls) opened with a solid 138-run partnership, dominating the Punjab Kings’ bowlers.

In KKR’s innings, 18 sixes and 22 fours were hit, with Punjab’s pacer Sam Curran conceding 60 runs in 4 overs and Kagiso Rabada giving away 55 runs in 3 overs.

In response, Punjab Kings took control of the chase.
Punjab’s batters made history with their spectacular batting performance, successfully chasing the highest total in T20 history with 8 balls remaining.

Jonny Bairstow scored an unbeaten 108 off 48 balls, following Prabhsimran Singh’s explosive 54 off 20 balls, while Shashank Singh added an unbeaten 68 off 28 balls to help Punjab Kings achieve a stunning victory.

Punjab Kings’ batters hit 24 sixes and 15 fours against the KKR bowlers.
In total, there were 42 sixes hit during the match.

The game was a batting extravaganza at Eden Gardens as the Punjab Kings secured a record T20 chase.
Seeing bowling getting hammered, India’s premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took to social media and wrote: “Save the bowlers someone plsss SOS SOS SOS”.

Punjab King, who won the match by 8 wickets, will next face Chennai Super Kings on May 1.
