NEW DELHI: Dinesh boythe cricket coach who mentored Indian cricket stars Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakursaid he was extremely honored to have won the Dronacharya Prize and attributed his victory to his students.
The Dronacharya Award is a sports honor given to sports coaches across India, who have trained some of the most talented and decorated sportsmen in the history of world and Indian sport.
“It’s great to have received the award. If Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur had not performed well, I would not have gotten this award. I think I got this award because of them,” said Lad at ANI.

He said Rohit and Shardul congratulated him on his award and they were the two who recommended his name to the government.
Lad said many of his students performed well and made him proud.
“It gives me a lot of happiness. My greatest happiness is that I get this award 32 years after my guru Ramakant Achrekar. I can say that one Dronacharya winner has created another Dronacharya winner,” he added.
Coach said he would like Shardul to win Arjuna award in future and bring laurels to his country and Rohit gave him “Guru Dakshina” thanks to his great performances for Team India and winning Khel award Ratna in 2020.
Notably, the two players are part of the Indian team which will play the Test and ODI series against Bangladesh in their territory from December 4.
