The English batter went hammer and pincer against Preeti Bose as she slammed it for 4,6,4,4,4 on successive balls to conjure up a superb half-century in the fifth.
Dunkley’s blitzkrieg ended with Shreyanka Patil for 65. His 28-ball shot was peppered with 11 fours and three sixes.
Before Dunkley, Mumbai Indians skipper Harmnapreet Kaur held the record for scoring the fastest fifty in the WPL when she landed a half-century 22 ball in the tournament opener against the Gujarat Giants.
Earlier Gujarat alternate skipper Sneh Rana didn’t hesitate to strike after winning the toss.
“I would like to strike first. It’s a used ground. I want to strike freely with our depth of strike. We play with the same XI. The environment was very positive – the kind of cricket we played. I enjoys the role. It adds responsibility to your shoulders,” Rana said.
