Let the Fourth be ‘Yes’: Ohio town hosts ‘Star Wars’ weddings

AKRON, OHIO: When Julia and Robert Jones discovered that a municipal court judge in Akron, Ohio would perform “Star Wars” themed weddings on May 4, the couple felt the Force calling them into the ceremony.
“There was no other right decision, that was it,” Julia Jones said.
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hopeplayed in the background as the Akron couple joined six other couples in 15-minute wedding ceremonies Thursday at the Highland Universal Gathering Spot in Akron to mark May 4, essentially a holiday for fans of “Star Wars”.
Most of the newlyweds wore traditional clothing, such as white dresses or a shirt and tie. But the Joneses came dressed in long tunics for the theme – Julia looking like a member of the Sith, the antagonists of the franchise, and Robert looking like a Jedi.
They held lightsabers as they exchanged vows in front of Julia’s parents and Akron City Court Judge Ron Cable, who said that “by assembling the lightsabers, and by offering and receiving rings”, he declared them husband and wife.
“I wish you all the happiness,” he told them. “May the force be with you.”
“Star Wars” enthusiasts around the world are celebrating May 4 with a variety of tributes, while retailers are holding special sales on related merchandise. And this year, beloved “Star Wars” actress Carrie Fisher was posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
